ModCloth is offering old looks on new screens. They feature soda-fountain dresses and retro-print skirts via their app. App users visit the site six times as often and spend more than twice as much per purchase than those using the full site. Cute product names seem to work in their favor, too. Women’s clothes go by monikers such as “Olive Your Dress” and “Sailor Swift Skirt.” Who doesn’t like puns?
ModCloth encourages user feedback. They check Pinterest and website info to evaluate which looks are the most popular. Joshua Goldman, a general partner at Norwest Venture Partners One of ModCloth’s investors said, “ModCloth had such unique products that weren’t available elsewhere, and it’s on a site that understands how to use social better than any other retailer I’ve seen. It gives them enormous advantages.”
